Château Angélus
A Saint-Émilion icon owned for generations by the Boüard de Laforest family, Angélus makes opulent, Cabernet Franc-rich wines from a famed amphitheatre of vines.
About Château
Château Angélus lies in a natural south-facing amphitheatre on the foot-slopes of Saint-Émilion, where the Boüard de Laforest family has farmed for generations. The estate coalesced around the Domaine de Mazerat, bequeathed to Comte Maurice de Boüard de Laforest in 1910, and grew with the acquisition of Clos de L'Angélus in 1922 and a further plot in 1969. Hubert de Boüard de Laforest drove its rise to the top tier of Saint-Émilion from the late 1970s, and the family continues to own and run the property today. Roughly 80 hectares of holdings centre on a vineyard blending Merlot with an unusually high proportion of Cabernet Franc, plus a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon. Annual production averages about 10,000 cases of the Grand vin and 1,000 cases of the second wine, Le Carillon d'Angélus. Angélus is celebrated for its rich, polished, age-worthy style.

Editorial notes
Powerful, Cabernet Franc-driven wines that drink well young but reward a decade or more of cellaring; decant younger vintages.
