About Château

Château Figeac is one of Saint-Émilion's grandest estates, its roots traced to a 2nd-century Gallo-Roman villa named for a landowner called Figeacus. The property has belonged to the same family since 1892, when Henriette Villepigue (née Chèvremont) acquired it; in 1947 Thierry Manoncourt took over the running of the estate and led its rise to the front ranks of Saint-Émilion until his death in 2010. His widow Marie-France Manoncourt, as Honorary President, and the family continue to own Figeac, with Frédéric Faye serving as Managing Director. The 54-hectare estate stands on rare gravelly outcrops that allow an unusually high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon alongside Cabernet Franc and Merlot, giving the wine a distinctive, Médoc-like structure and elegance. Annual production is roughly 10,000 cases. In 2022 Figeac was elevated to Premier Grand Cru Classé A status in the Saint-Émilion classification.

Editorial notes

Practical guidance

Its gravel-driven, Cabernet-heavy style is more structured than most Right Bank wines; built for long aging and rewards patience and decanting.
