Domaine Leroy
The cult biodynamic estate of Lalou Bize-Leroy in Vosne-Romanée, whose tiny-yield Grands Crus rank among the most coveted and expensive wines in the world.
About Domaine
Domaine Leroy was created in 1988 when Lalou Bize-Leroy purchased Domaine Charles Noëllat in Vosne-Romanée, drawing on her family's long-established négociant house, Maison Leroy, founded in 1868. A former co-manager of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Bize-Leroy converted the estate to biodynamic farming from the outset, now certified by Ecocert. Across roughly 23 hectares of mostly Premier and Grand Cru vineyards, yields are kept extraordinarily low — on the order of 16 hectolitres per hectare — producing pinot noir of remarkable concentration, purity and aging potential. The wines are released in minuscule quantities and command some of the highest prices in Burgundy. Often called the "Queen of Burgundy," Bize-Leroy turned Domaine Leroy into a benchmark for uncompromising, terroir-driven winemaking and a touchstone of the biodynamic movement in the Côte de Nuits.
