About Felton

Felton Road sits in the Bannockburn sub-region of Central Otago, New Zealand, where retired ophthalmologist Stewart Elms planted the first vines in 1991 on a north-facing slope at the end of the road that gives the estate its name. Founding winemaker Blair Walter has led production since the beginning. The property was purchased by UK marketing entrepreneur and Pinot Noir enthusiast Nigel Greening, who has championed a hands-off, terroir-driven philosophy and remains its owner. Felton Road operates as a strict estate domaine, releasing around 150,000 bottles annually made exclusively from its own fruit across vineyards including Elms, Cornish Point and Calvert. All sites have been farmed organically since 2002 and are Demeter-certified biodynamic. The range centres on a celebrated lineup of single-vineyard and block Pinot Noirs, complemented by Riesling and Chardonnay. Felton Road is internationally regarded as one of the finest Pinot Noir producers in the world and a benchmark for Central Otago.

Editorial notes

Practical guidance

Demeter-certified biodynamic; the single-block Pinots (Block 3, Block 5) are highly allocated and cellar well.
