Harlan Estate
A cult Napa Cabernet estate in the western hills of Oakville, founded on Bill Harlan's vision of a 200-year, first-growth-caliber California red.
About Harlan
Harlan Estate sits on a 240-acre property of forest and steep, east-facing slopes in the western hills of Oakville, of which roughly 40 acres are planted to vine. Founded in 1984 by real-estate developer and vintner H. William 'Bill' Harlan, the estate was conceived around an explicitly long-term ambition: to build a California first growth and steward it across a 200-year horizon. Its proprietary red, a Bordeaux-style blend led by Cabernet Sauvignon, became one of Napa's defining cult wines, prized for power, structure and longevity, and made in tiny quantities of around 2,000 cases annually. In 2021 Bill Harlan appointed his son Will Harlan as managing director while retaining the role of founder and chairman, keeping the estate within the family alongside related ventures Promontory, BOND and The Mascot. Harlan remains a benchmark for ageworthy, hillside-grown Oakville Cabernet.
