Château Mouton Rothschild
The Pauillac estate famously elevated from Second to First Growth in 1973 — the only change ever made to the 1855 Classification — celebrated for opulent reds and its artist-designed labels.
About Château
Château Mouton Rothschild is a Pauillac First Growth and one of Bordeaux's most storied estates. Originally Château Brane-Mouton, it was acquired by Nathaniel de Rothschild in 1853 and renamed. Under Baron Philippe de Rothschild, who took charge in 1922, the estate transformed: he pioneered château-bottling, launched the Mouton Cadet brand, and commissioned a different celebrated artist to design each vintage's label from 1945. In 1973 Mouton was promoted from Second to First Growth — the sole revision ever made to the 1855 Classification. The roughly 90-hectare vineyard is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, yielding rich, exotically perfumed and powerful wines. The estate is run by Baron Philippe de Rothschild SA on behalf of Baroness Philippine de Rothschild's heirs; her eldest son, Philippe Sereys de Rothschild, was named president in 2014. The second wine is Le Petit Mouton de Mouton Rothschild.

Editorial notes
Each vintage carries a unique artist label, a collectible draw in itself. Generous, flamboyant style; top years still demand long cellaring.
