Domaine Armand Rousseau
A reference estate of Gevrey-Chambertin, family-owned for four generations and renowned for its profound, age-worthy Chambertin and Chambertin Clos de Bèze.
About Domaine
Domaine Armand Rousseau traces to 1909, when Armand Rousseau acquired vineyard plots and the family's domaine building in Gevrey-Chambertin around the time of his marriage. Rapid expansion through the 1910s and 1920s added holdings in Charmes-Chambertin, Clos de la Roche and Chambertin, and on the advice of Raymond Baudoin the estate began bottling and selling its own wine in the 1930s — an early pioneer of domaine bottling in Burgundy. After Armand died in a car accident in 1959, his son Charles led the domaine for decades; today it is run by Charles's son Eric, with the fourth generation now involved. From just under 14 hectares the domaine produces around 65,000 bottles a year of classically structured, transparent pinot noir built for long aging. Its grand cru lineup, crowned by Chambertin and Chambertin Clos de Bèze, is among the most revered in the Côte de Nuits.

Editorial notes
Top cuvées reward a decade or more in the cellar; decant young vintages and serve at cool cellar temperature.
