About Gevrey-Chambertin

Gevrey-Chambertin is the northern anchor of the Côte de Nuits and one of the most famous red-wine villages in all of Burgundy. Its reputation rests on power and longevity: more grand cru land than any other Côte de Nuits commune, crowned by Chambertin and Chambertin-Clos de Bèze, plus a further seven grand crus that append the Chambertin name. Below them, twenty-six premier crus and a broad sweep of village vineyards extend the hierarchy. The wines, made exclusively from Pinot Noir, are typically deep, firm and brooding in youth, built on dark-fruit, spice and game notes, and they reward long cellaring. Domaine Armand Rousseau set the modern benchmark here, farming a stable of grand and premier crus with a deft, terroir-driven hand. Defined as an AOC in 1936, Gevrey-Chambertin remains a foundational name for collectors who prize structure and ageworthiness in red Burgundy.
