About Domaine

Domaine des Comtes Lafon is one of the great names of the Côte de Beaune, celebrated for both its Meursault whites and its Volnay reds. The wine-domaine identity dates to 1894, when Jules Lafon married Marie Boch into the Clos de la Barre property, and the family steadily assembled an exceptional patrimony, including a parcel of Le Montrachet Grand Cru acquired in 1919. Fourth-generation Dominique Lafon took charge in 1985, reclaimed the estate's sharecropped vineyards by 1993, and converted the whole domaine to biodynamic farming by 1998, cementing its modern reputation. The 16.3-hectare estate spans Meursault, Volnay, Monthélie and Chassagne-Montrachet, and is the only Meursault domaine holding all six central premiers crus alongside Le Montrachet. The chardonnays are rich yet precise and famously age-worthy; the pinot noir Volnays are perfumed and structured. Dominique retired at the end of 2021, and fifth-generation Léa and Pierre Lafon now direct the estate.

Editorial notes

Practical guidance

One of the few top estates excelling at both white and red Burgundy; premier and grand cru bottlings reward long cellaring. Village Meursault is a strong entry point.
