About Château

Château Suduiraut is one of the oldest and most distinguished estates of Sauternes, classified a Premier Cru Classé in 1855. Its history is long but partly obscure, traceable with reasonable certainty to the 16th century and associated with the Suduiraut family from 1580, when the estate took shape on prime terroir in Preignac bordering Château d'Yquem. After a period of decline, it was revived in the 20th century, and in 1992 it was acquired by AXA Millésimes, the wine arm of the AXA insurance group that had already restored Château Pichon-Baron. Under AXA, with Christian Seely's involvement, quality and consistency rose sharply. The roughly 90-hectare vineyard, planted mostly to Sémillon with Sauvignon Blanc, yields a refined, aromatic Sauternes balancing botrytis richness with freshness. Suduiraut is widely regarded as one of the leading sweet wines of Bordeaux after Yquem.

Editorial notes

Practical guidance

A top-tier Sauternes that pairs classically with foie gras and Roquefort; offers excellent value relative to its First Growth status and ages well.
