Dr. Loosen
A leading Mosel estate famed worldwide for ageworthy Riesling from steep, slate-rich Grand Cru vineyards, led since 1988 by Ernst 'Erni' Loosen.
About Dr.
Weingut Dr. Loosen is one of the Mosel's most internationally celebrated estates, in the hands of the Loosen family for more than 200 years and based in Bernkastel on Germany's Middle Mosel. Since taking over in 1988, Ernst F. 'Erni' Loosen has transformed the estate into a global ambassador for Mosel Riesling, championing old ungrafted vines and a portfolio drawn from some of the region's most storied steep, slate-rich vineyard sites such as Wehlener Sonnenuhr, Ürziger Würzgarten and Erdener Prälatt. The wines span the full spectrum of Mosel Riesling, from dry (trocken) bottlings through the classic Prädikat ladder of Kabinett, Spätlese and Auslese to rare botrytised sweet wines. Dr. Loosen also produces the widely distributed entry-level 'Dr. L' Riesling. The annual production volume is not publicly disclosed on the estate's own materials.

Editorial notes

An exact founding year is not stated on the official source; secondary sources cite circa 1804, so the founded field is hedged. Annual production is not disclosed on official materials and is recorded as 'Not publicly disclosed'. Wines are Riesling; styles white-still and sweet (Auslese/botrytis).
