About Château

Château Lynch-Bages is one of Pauillac's most popular estates, classified a Fifth Growth (Cinquième Cru) in 1855 but widely regarded as overdelivering. Its hyphenated name dates to the 18th century, when Thomas Lynch — son of an Irish émigré who settled in Bordeaux — came to own the Domaine de Bages, with 1749 marking the estate's foundation. The property entered modern fame under Jean-Charles Cazes, a Pauillac baker who leased the vineyard in 1934 and purchased it outright in 1938; the Cazes family still owns it today, with successive generations refining its style. Lynch-Bages is prized for its generous, concentrated and richly textured Cabernet Sauvignon-led wines that combine power with a welcoming character, making it a perennial collector and restaurant favourite. The estate also produces a respected dry white, Blanc de Lynch-Bages, alongside its second wine, Echo de Lynch-Bages.

Editorial notes

Practical guidance

A reliable, crowd-pleasing Pauillac that rewards medium-term cellaring; its richness makes it more accessible young than many classified Médocs. Pairs classically with lamb.
