Saint-Julien AOC
A compact Médoc commune prized for the consistency and balance of its classed growths, Saint-Julien bridges Pauillac's power and Margaux's finesse.
About Saint-Julien
Saint-Julien is the smallest of the Médoc's four headline communes yet boasts an unusually high proportion of classified vineyard land. With no First Growths but a remarkable concentration of Second Growths — led by Léoville-Las Cases and Ducru-Beaucaillou — it is often described as the most reliably excellent appellation in Bordeaux. Its gravel terraces along the Gironde drain freely and warm the roots, ripening a Cabernet Sauvignon–dominated blend rounded out with Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The wines marry the structure and cassis depth of neighbouring Pauillac with a polish and harmony closer to Margaux, showing cedar, dark fruit and refined tannins. Built for the cellar, the best Saint-Juliens age effortlessly for decades, and the commune's exceptional consistency from estate to estate makes it a benchmark of left-bank classicism.
