About Graham's

Graham's was founded in 1820 by the Scottish brothers William and John Graham, who reputedly entered the Port trade after accepting a shipment of Portuguese wine in settlement of a debt. The house built its reputation on opulent, powerful Vintage Ports and acquired the prized Quinta dos Malvedos vineyard high in the Douro. The Symington family, whose association with Graham's began in 1882 when Andrew James Symington came from Scotland to work in Porto, purchased the company in 1970. Today Graham's is one of the cornerstone houses of Symington Family Estates, alongside Dow's, Warre's and Cockburn's, and remains family-owned. Its lodge in Vila Nova de Gaia overlooking the Douro is among the most famous in the trade. Graham's Vintage Ports, declared only in exceptional years, are benchmarks of the category, prized for their depth, sweetness and decades-long cellaring potential.

Editorial notes

Practical guidance

Vintage Ports are declared only in top years and reward long cellaring; tawnies are ready to drink. A classic match with Stilton and other blue cheeses.
