About Puligny-Montrachet

Puligny-Montrachet stands at the pinnacle of dry white wine. Its Chardonnay is defined by tension, precision and a steely, mineral spine that develops extraordinary complexity with age. The commune shares four grand crus with Chassagne-Montrachet — Montrachet itself, the most coveted white wine on earth, alongside Chevalier-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet and Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet — and adds seventeen premiers crus of its own. A high water table keeps most cellars above ground and lends the wines their characteristic nervy energy. Domaine Leflaive, a biodynamic pioneer, is the village's most revered name, crafting whites of crystalline purity across the grand and premier cru hierarchy. Established as an AOC in 1937, Puligny-Montrachet is a foundational reference for white Burgundy: a benchmark against which the world's ambitious Chardonnays are measured.
