Château Canon
A walled Saint-Émilion estate on the limestone plateau, owned since 1996 by the Wertheimer family of Chanel and known for elegant, finely structured wines.
About Château
Château Canon sits within a historic walled vineyard on the limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion. The estate was planted in the early 18th century and sold in 1760 to Jacques Kanon, a name later adapted to Canon; the property was officially titled Château Canon by 1853. The Fournier family modernized it through much of the 20th century before the estate was sold in 1996 to the Wertheimer family, the owners of the luxury house Chanel, who have invested heavily in restoring its vineyards and cellars. Canon's vines grow over deep limestone, much of it riddled with old quarry galleries that help moderate the vintage. The estate produces on average about 7,500 cases a year across the Grand vin and the second wine, Clos de Canon. Today Canon is prized for its perfumed, elegant and precise Merlot- and Cabernet Franc-based wines.

Editorial notes
Elegant and limestone-driven rather than blockbuster; ages gracefully and shows well with medium-term cellaring.
