Shafer Vineyards
A Stags Leap District estate renowned for its Hillside Select Cabernet Sauvignon, one of Napa's most decorated collectible reds.
About Shafer
Shafer Vineyards traces to 1972, when John Shafer left a Chicago publishing career and moved his family to Napa Valley to grow grapes, building a roughly 210-acre estate in the Stags Leap District. The winery is celebrated above all for Hillside Select Cabernet Sauvignon, a hillside-sourced Cabernet aged at length in new French oak that has earned multiple perfect 100-point scores and ranks among Napa's most collectible reds. Its portfolio also includes the One Point Five Cabernet and the TD-9 and Relentless blends. In February 2022 the family sold Shafer to the South Korean conglomerate Shinsegae for a reported $250 million, with longtime winemaker Elias Fernandez and core staff continuing under the new ownership. Combining a prime Stags Leap terroir with decades of consistency, Shafer remains a benchmark for powerful yet polished Napa Cabernet built for the cellar.
