Morey-Saint-Denis AOC
An often-overlooked Côte de Nuits commune whose red Pinot Noir bridges the power of Gevrey and the finesse of Chambolle, anchored by five grand crus.
About Morey-Saint-Denis
Morey-Saint-Denis is the quiet jewel of the central Côte de Nuits, lying between the powerhouses of Gevrey-Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny and stylistically drawing on both — combining structure with perfume. Despite its small size, it boasts an exceptional concentration of grand cru land: Clos de la Roche, Clos Saint-Denis, Clos des Lambrays and Clos de Tart, plus a share of Bonnes-Mares. Twenty premiers crus and a band of village vineyards complete the hierarchy. The wines, all red Pinot Noir, are deeply coloured, savoury and ageworthy, yet retain a silken core. Domaine Dujac, based in the village, is among Burgundy's most admired estates, famed for whole-cluster fermentation that lends its Morey wines spice, lift and aromatic complexity. Established as an AOC in 1936, Morey-Saint-Denis remains a connoisseur's appellation — less famous than its neighbours but rarely their inferior.
