About Henschke

Henschke is one of Australia's oldest family-owned wineries, with the first recorded sale of its wine in 1868 under founder Johann Christian Henschke, a Silesian immigrant who settled in the Barossa's Eden Valley. The estate has passed through six generations of family grapegrowing and winemaking and is today led by fifth-generation winemaker Stephen Henschke and viticulturist Prue Henschke, who farm the vineyards along biodynamic and organic principles. Henschke is most celebrated for Hill of Grace, a single-vineyard Eden Valley Shiraz first bottled from the 1958 vintage, drawn from ancient ungrafted vines and ranked among the very greatest Australian reds. Mount Edelstone, another old-vine Eden Valley Shiraz, and the Cyril Henschke Cabernet Sauvignon complete the flagship range. The estate spans vineyards in the Eden Valley, Barossa Valley and Adelaide Hills.

Editorial notes

Practical guidance

Founding (first recorded sale 1868) and sixth-generation family ownership confirmed on the official site and Wikipedia. Hill of Grace and Mount Edelstone are Shiraz (Syrah). Production figure of ~40,000 cases/yr is from Wikipedia's data box; the official site does not state a current production volume, so the figure is hedged.
